Coweta, Georgia, the site of the new location for Starship Adult Novelties & GIfts, did not open as scheduled this past Thursday January 15th, 2009 due to issues that still need to be resolved with city officials. The zoning regulations for the Coweta County area are as long as the retail store does not carry more than 25 percent or more items considered "adult" under the city ordinance, it can operate as a regular commercial business.
Starship CEO Kelly Rogers said the meeting with Coweta officials went quite well. Rogers continued...."They are definitely holding us to the letter of their ordinance, making sure that we comply with all of their ordinances and regulations, which we assured them we would," Rogers said.
"Of course, they're going to audit us once we get open. We welcome that, and they're going to make sure we comply." "Other than that, we've just got to apply for the business license," he said, and "we'll be ready to open when we get it."

Rogers also stated that he hasn't been able to apply for the business license yet because he hasn't yet received a certificate of occupancy from the building department. I wonder if this is just more legal red tape to delay the opening! Of course this is my personal opinion.
Starship Enterprises investing heavily in the renovation of the retail location to make it look appealing to clients and neighbors. The new location is near Thomas Crossroads, and is waiting for the building inspector to sign off on the final inspection and grant the CO.
Rogers said he is expecting to get the CO either today or Monday. Unfortunately, the normal time period to get your business license issued in Coweta is up to two weeks. However Rogers did state that he doesn't anticpate any more delays in getting the license to open.

"They told us exactly what they required," Rogers said. "We told them we would comply." Rogers is also receiving huge publicity over the controversy because the Starship office phones have been ringing off the hook wondering when they will be open for business.
"It's been tons of people this morning wanting to come shop, saying they wanted to be the first customers," Rogers said.
"So definitely, where I thought there was a need, it is starting to show," he said.
Coweta County ordinance specifically mentions the items commonly known as Adult Sex Toys! When Georgia had a state-wide ban on sex toys, retailers got around the ban by putting stickers on items saying. Rogers stated that "We ID anybody that looks under 27 years of age."
One thing is for sure, retailers aren't going anywhere and the rumor mill that retail store locations are the past is sadly mistaken.
Make sure distributors, producers and managers, to take advantage of hard working retail store outlets that are operating in the public 24/7 and see why retail store locations are worth fighting for and worth supporting with your novelties, movies, love gems and consumer support.
