MEGA AUSTRALIAN RETAIL ADULT FRANCHISE DENIED LICENSE TO OPERATE IN BERWICK, AUSTRALIA

An application to establish a franchise of The Sextastic Adult Variety Store chain in Berwick, was refused by Casey Council this past week.The Sextastic Adult Variety Store was to be located in an industrial zoned area and set up to market to both gay and heterosexuals adult literature, XXX DVD's, NC-17 DVD's, lingerie and novelties.
The Council claimed to had received over 23 objections, including a petition signed by more than 140 people in the county.

The few submissions received in support of the retail store chain were allegedly falsified. CEO of The Sextastic Adult Variety Store Chain Scott Gowans, attributed to a mix up with names and addresses for the confusion when presenting the document to the city council.
Jodie and Scott Gowans are the owners and are very proud of the concept they have developed. “We have so many people say to us that they have never been into an adult store before, and are so surprised at how good it is, and that the store is very different to what they had expected. The best part of all is that we have never had one person say they were disappointed after having visited us for the first time, that is very important to me” says Managing Director Jodie Gowans.

Sextastic started as a small operation in 1999 and has grown to multiple stores in 2006, and again in 2007. CEO Scott Gowans says “We aim to be the premier adult retailer in Australia, and we are both really excited about franchising and giving other people the chance to own, and experience the enjoyment we get out of the Sextastic concept. We spent the late part of 2005 developing systems and a model to franchise, and then during 2006 we refined everything with a professional franchise developer, and now we are ready to go.”

Sextastic does not have viewing rooms, or sell any drug paraphernalia at all. They are about having bright, friendly, fun ideas and products for adults both hetero and gay/lesbian. The Sextastic Adult Variety Stores are the first adult retail business in Australia to be accepted as a memeber of the FCA (Franchise Council of Australia).
