I can't believe this is happening in the 21st Century JRL fans. The legendary retail outlet Mankind Video which is based in San Diego, California, was censored by CBS Outdoor Advertising for Mankind’s bus-stop display ads.

What is blatantly obvious is that this is censorship at its worst and is a direct attack against the GLBT community of San Diego. CBS Outdoor Advertising removed Mankind Video’s bus-stop ads in Hillcrest back on December 21, 2009 in the early morning.

CBS Outdoor Advertising contacted Mankind Video and informed them that the City had complained and ordered all six of the Mankind Video display ads to be because they were too “sexually explicit.”

If you are resident of San Diego, you know that the Mankind Video display ads were not sexually explicit whatsoever. In fact, the ads had been running for two months before anyone had complained about them.

I attempted to reach James Stevens to see if we could get a copy of the City of San Diego’s order to remove the ads for publishing in this article but my calls were not returned. District 3 Councilman's office is now looking in to this matter and what they and I agree on is that CBS Outdoor Advertising’s actions, not the City’s, could be censorship.

The management of Mankind Video's marketing division has been in consultations with their attorneys in this matter. It was even picked up by ABC affiliate Channel 10 News who send a camera crew to the Mankind Video outlet to get their comment on this story.
