Two men and a woman have been indicted in the Christmas-week robbery of two "adult" video super stores in Hillsboro, OR.

The men turned themselves into police to avoid raids on their homes and a media storm of reporters at their families homes. The woman Crystal Allen, shown in the picture, is wanting for questioning.

At 4:43 a.m. December 27th, 2009, a man and a woman entered the Fantasy For Adults Only Video Store at 6440 S.W. Coronado St. in Portland allegedly carried guns and threatened the clerk with bodily harm if he didn't hand over the cash. Both suspects concealed their faces with either a mask or a scarf, and fled the scene with the video store's cash.

An hour later, at 5:43 a.m., Mr. Peeps Adult Super Store at 20625 S.W. Tualatin Valley Highway in Aloha was robbed by a man and woman with similar descriptions. Once Sheriff’s detectives viewed the video surveillance from both robberies, they determined the suspects were the same people, "based on their clothing and other evidence seen in the video," according to a Washington County Sheriff's Office release.

Washington County Sergeant David Thompson said detectives then started receiving tips from the media reports on one o the suspects. With that tip, Thompson reports, led to a search warrant served on the vehicle of 30-year-old Darren Carmichael of Tualatin. Detectives stated that they found evidence from the robberies in Carmichael's vehicle, including cash, masks and guns. They also said they found methamphetamine and "a pipe to smoke it in,".

Washington County Detectives continued their investigation, identifying two additional suspects. They believe the female suspect in this case is 29-year-old Crystal Jo Allen of Hillsboro. The getaway driver in this case is 34-year-old Brian J. Winebarger of Gresham.

On January 4th, 2010, Carmichael and Winebarger - unaware of the investigation on them, decided to appear in the Washington County Courthouse on separate, unrelated court matters.

Detectives and uniformed deputies were there. They took both men into custody "without incident."

That does seem a bit odd! It sounds to this reporter at least, that a quiet deal was struck for the two to turn themselves in.

Crystal Jo Allen is still wanted for questioning at this time. A warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Those with information can call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at (503) 846-2500.
